Cheesy Ham Pasta



Serves 4

Ingredients
40g butter
25g flour
275ml warm milk
125g Cheddar cheese, grated
50g frozen peas
100g cooked ham, chopped
salt and white pepper
400g penne, or other dried pasta

Method
Put the pasta into a large pan of boiling water. Stir well to prevent it sticking together, and cook for 8-10 minutes (or according to the packet instructions)
Meanwhile make the sauce. Melt the butter over a low heat in a small saucepan
Sprinkle in the flour and stir to make a roux
Cook the roux for 2 minutes, stirring constantly
Add the warm milk a little at a time, stirring constantly
When all the milk has been added bring the sauce to the boil, add the peas and gently simmer for 5 minutes
Take the saucepan off the heat and stir in the grated cheese
When the cheese has melted add the cooked ham and stir into the sauce
Season the sauce with salt and white pepper
When the pasta is cooked pour the cheese sauce over the pasta. Mix well and serve
